24. Bucky (Jibaku-Kun)

binge worthy anime

Status: Completed (26 episodes).

Bucky, in original Jibaku-Kun, was originally aired between October 1999 and March 2000. This series especially enjoyed great success in Brazil, despite the low popularity it had in other countries, including in its home country.

Based on the manga created by Ami Shibata, Bucky tells the story of a world where human beings, monsters, and spirits live in perfect harmony. But the whole balance of this place (known as World 12) collapses when something terrible happens with the Princess of the “Pointy Tower”.

Throughout the episodes, we accompany Bucky and Jibak while touring the 12 worlds of “World 12” (which is shaped like a clock), facing their respective “Big Children” and spirits, as well as their protective monsters. It may seem a rather confusing argument at first glance, but as soon as you start seeing Bucky, you will also desperately want to have an explosive “pink round monster”!

23. One Piece

all anime list

Status: currently issued.

Broadcasting since 1999, One Piece is one of the longest anime of all time. Created by Eiichiro Oda, the anime is based on the manga of the same name, originally published in 1997. The plot of the story focuses on the pirate Monkey D. Luffy and his group, the “Straw Hat Pirates.” The goal of the young man is very “simple”: find the One Piece and become the King of the Pirates.

The mythology of One Piece is full of different races, such as mermaids, dwarves, giants, among other strange creatures that inhabit the different seas described in the anime.

Like all shounen (or most of them), One Piece shows the growth and maturity of the protagonist, while facing super-strong opponents in different plot arcs. If you are a fan of this anime genre, One Piece should definitely be on your must-have list.

22. Ajin

what anime to watch

Status: Completed (26 episodes).

Ajin is one of the anime seinen (for the male public between 18 and 40 years) more great of recent times and is also available on Netflix.

Due to the rarity and eccentricity of such people, the government offers a great reward for those who capture an Ajin. So that they can undergo experiments because they are interested in knowing more about them and how to exploit their immortality for their own benefit.

This series also features several films ( Ajin Part 1; Shodo, Ajin Part 2; Shotots and Ajin Part 3; Shogeki ), manga (still in publication), an OVA (with 3 episodes) and another film directed by Katsuyuki Motohiro.

21. Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

anime everyone should watch

Status: Completed (25 episodes).

If you’re a fan of anime, you’ve probably heard of Lelouch Lamperouge. A warrior prince who uses the power of his Geass (a powerful eye that forces anyone to follow the orders of those who own it) to destroy the world as we know it and build a new, more kind and perfect society, like his sister, always dreamed.

This is the plot of Code Geass, a sensational anime whose character design is made by CLAMP ( Sakura Cardcaptor and Chobits). In addition to having a spectacular appearance, strong characters, and an interesting and complex argument, Code Geass is also an excellent critique of the definition of justice, offering important reflections on the way we live in a society today.

If the 25 episodes of the series are short, you can always read the manga Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Black Knights One, with 8 volumes published.

20. Highschool of the Dead

what are the best anime shows

Status: Completed (12 episodes).

For those who are tired of the same old stories about the zombie apocalypse, Highschool of the Dead is a good short-lived anime for fans of this genre.

Komuro Takashi is a young man who sees how a terrible infection spreads in his school, transforming his friends into zombies. So far no news, right?

What makes this anime different is the evolution of the story throughout the episodes, focusing on crises and conflicts that would be real, if we encounter this situation, such as the destruction of the main human moral codes. The anime is based on the first 5 volumes of the manga of the same name, which has a total of 7 published volumes.

19. Yu Yu Hakusho

best anime on funimation

Status: Completed (112 episodes).

Yu Yu Hakusho is one of the anime classic 90s that every fan needs to see! Literally, its translation is “The report of the playful ghost.” Based on the manga written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi, Yu Yu Hakusho tells the story of Yusuke Urameshi, a young criminal who dies while trying to save a child’s life.

18. Hunter x Hunter

good anime shows

Status: Completed (62 episodes | 148 episodes).

Hunter x Hunter is another title that you can not miss and a good suggestion for those who want to immerse themselves in the world of anime. With a script by Tsutomu Kamishiro, this anime is divided into two series: the first one released between 1999 and 2001, and the second one between 2011 and 2014.

Here we are going to refer to the second version of the anime, considered the most complete. Since it adapts all the plot arcs seen in the manga. The universe created by Yoshihiro Togashi is very rich, with a unique magic system (through the use of the Nen, which is the energy of the aura itself, basically) and with a fairly characteristic mythology.

Each Hunter x Hunter arc is almost like an independent anime, with different themes and inclusion of exclusive characters. Although the viewer continues to see the evolution of Gon Freecss, the protagonist, and his friends in search of discovering what it is to be a Hunter. The plot does not close only to that and presents differentiated stories with its own autonomy.

The anime proposes a reflection on humanity with interesting and controversial topics such as prejudice, inequality, poverty, family, among others. The animation is in charge of Madhouse, known for having produced Death Note and One-Punch Man. That means we can expect beautiful action sequences, fluid and very well done!

17. Death Note

what anime to watch next

Status: Completed (37 episodes).

What would you do if you owned a notebook capable of killing all your enemies? This is the weapon that Light Yagami, a high school student, uses to “fight evil.” When the young man discovers the Death Note, he decides to write in it the name of all the criminals of the city, in order to achieve a more peaceful society.

However, Light’s plans end up being interrupted by L. , a private detective who became one of the most iconic characters in the series, in addition to Ryuk (the “god of death”) obviously.

In August 2017, Netflix premiered the American real-life adaptation of Death Note, directed by Adam Wingard, Nat Wolff as Light Yagami, Keith Stanfield as L., and Willem Dafoe as Ryuk. This television movie had a warm welcome and horrified fans of the original series.

16. Tenchi Muyo!

popular anime shows

Status: Finished (26 episodes – each season).

Tenchi Muyo! It is a series of anime, manga and light novels, created by Kajishima Masaki and Hiroshi Hayashi, about a young man named Tenchi Masaki, which was so successful that it became a franchise. The series is divided into two seasons that have no connection to each other as if each one happened in a parallel universe: Tenchi! Universe (1st season) and Tenchi in Tokyo (2nd season).

However, in all the series, Tenchi Masaki and the space girls (Ryoko, Ayeka, Sasami, Mihoshi, Washu, and Kiyone) are present to face the various enemies that appear, be they warriors from another galaxy or demonic spirits!

There is still a third series called Tenchi Muyo! GXP aired in 2002 and also has 26 episodes. Tenchi Muyo! It is a series that different types of audiences like, from shōjo to shounen.

15. One-Punch Man

most watched animes

Status: On issue.

This is another anime that (unexpectedly) reaped great success and cannot go unnoticed among Seinen fans who enjoy good battle scenes. One-Punch Man tells the story of Saitama, a young man who starts intense training with the goal of becoming the strongest superhero in the world … and he succeeds!

Able to defeat his enemies with just a single blow, this bald hero, in a yellow uniform and with rubber gloves (sexy, right?). Has captivated the audience with humor and an attitude that sometimes borders on ridicule.

One-Punch Man is a cliches festival of traditional shounen stories, but that has already conquered the heart of a legion of otakus. To understand the reason, you will have to watch the series and let yourself be “infected” by this fever!

14. Charlotte

what anime should i watch next

Status: Completed (13 episodes).

In an alternative world, some individuals possess special powers that only develop when they reach puberty. This is the case of Otosaka Yuu, a young man who discovers being able to “own” people’s minds … but only for 5 seconds.

This is what makes Charlotte different and what makes this anime a very interesting option for those who are looking for a story that stands out from the usual: the limitations of the characters’ powers.

For example, there is a girl capable of becoming invisible, but only for one person at a time and another who manages to be possessed by spirits, but only by that of her sister … And so this team of people with “super” powers.

13. Death Parade

top anime to binge watch

Status: Completed (12 episodes).

For those who want to escape from anime full of battles and blows, Death Parade is one of the most interesting news that is surprising fans. Based on the short Death Billiards, the anime shows that when two people die at the same time they are sent to mysterious bars that are managed by bartenders, spirits that act as judges of those places.

There, people must participate in a series of games that serve to try to decide their respective destinies: reincarnate on Earth or doomed to wander eternally through the void.

Death Parade is a very intense and bleak psychological thriller. If you like this genre of anime, it is already taking time to see it!

12. Attack on Titan

best anime to binge watch

Status: On-air (25 episodes – 1st season).

Without a doubt, this is one of the most acclaimed anime of recent times. Based on the shonen manga created by Hajime Isayama, Attack on Titan tells the story of a world devastated by the attack of giants that have devoured much of the Earth’s population.

A group of survivors lives isolated inside a great wall, but not for a long time … When the peace of the place is threatened, Eren Jaeger, a young man with “special abilities”, reunites an army with the mission of Destroy the scary creatures.

Attention, this is not an anime for those who have a “weak stomach.” In almost every episode there are decapitation scenes and people being dismembered by the Titans. But Attack of Titan is more than free violence, as many people might assume. Blood is not what matters most in this anime, just a tool to show the fragility of human life …

In addition to the anime, Attack of Titan also has 5 OVA’s, two movies based on the first season of the anime, two live-action movies based on the manga, electronic games, light novels spin-offs and, of course, the manga. There is nothing!

11. Orange

best anime episodes

Status: On-air (13 episodes – 1st season).

Naho receives a letter sent by herself 10 years in the future on the first day of class. At first, she totally ignores its content, which warns about some supposed events that would lead to a tragedy.

9. Kiseiju: Sei no Kuritsu

top 10 anime shows

Status: Completed (24 episodes).

Also known by Parasyte, this is another anime that is not suitable for sensitive eyes. With grotesque images capable of disturbing the dream of many, Kiseiju tells the story of a group of alien parasitic worms that have invaded Earth to control the bodies of human beings.

Izumi Shinichi , a 17-year-old student, was one of those victims … Well, more or less. A parasite tried to invade Shinichi’s brain, but he did not get it completely and can only dominate the child’s right hand.

With the help of Migi – name of the parasite that happens to live in the hand of the boy – Izumi transforms into a superhero that fights the other parasites. The manga that gave rise to this anime was originally published from 1988 to 1995, being a total success.

8. Monster

good places to watch anime

Status: Completed (74 episodes).

Fleeing a little from the shounen anime, Monster is one of the most acclaimed seinen among fans. Based on the manga of the same name, created by Naoki Urasawa, Monster (2004 – 2005) is produced by Madhouse, which is already a good start.

The story accompanies neurosurgeon Kenzou Tenma , a successful doctor with a commendable reputation, but who sees how his life changes completely after a tragic episode.

This anime has been praised for being quite faithful to the manga on which it is based, and both manage to maintain a plot with constant suspense without losing the dramatic tone. Oh, and Monster has one of the best villains ever, Johan!

7. Boku Dake Ga Inai Machi (ERASED)

binge watching anime

Status: Completed (12 episodes).

The aspirant to mangaka, Satoru Fujinuma is a young man with a rather peculiar power: he manages to travel in time whenever a tragedy happens.

When his mother is brutally murdered, Fujinuma returns 18 years ago in time to try to alter a series of events that led to the emergence of the dangerous serial killer responsible for killing his mother.

The manga that inspired the anime is composed of 8 volumes, but there is a new edition ( Boku Dake ga Inai Machi: Re ) that continues to be published. Netflix produced a series of real images with great success that has conquered fans due to its great fidelity and quality, as well as delving deeper into the psychology of the characters than the anime itself.

6. Another

good anime to binge watch

Status: Completed (12 episodes).

If you are a fan of horror anime, Another cannot be missing from your list. Based on the light novel by Yukito Ayatsuji (and later adapted to the manga), this anime has a great load of supernatural suspense that delights its followers.

The young Sakakibara is transferred to Yomiyama North School, going to a class that is far from normal. Horrible deaths and constant fear stalk the students, who believe they are trapped in a curse that began 23 years ago when one of the students died. Or at least that was what was thought …

Another is a short and straight to the point anime, ideal for those who can’t stand stories with much mimimi. But one warning, be prepared to be impressed because Another is not to take it as a joke …

5. Cowboy Bebop

anime worth watching

Status: Completed (26 episodes).

Without a doubt, this is one of the cult anime among fans of the genre. Cowboy Bebop (1998 – 1999) is different from most of the Japanese animations you could see. With purely cinematic scenes, an impressive color palette and a spectacular soundtrack, watching this anime is almost an obligation of the good that.

Produced by Sunrise, directed by Shinichiro Watanabe and written by Keiko Nobumoto, Cowboy Bebop tells the story of a group of bounty hunters in the future where humans have migrated to other planets in the Solar System.

The human population has credited disproportionately, as have the criminals, and it is up to the members of the Bebop (Spike, Jet, Valentine, Ed and Ein) to persecute the criminals. With this plot as the basis, each episode explores mature and philosophical issues, such as loneliness and existentialism.

Cowboy Bebop has a lot of influence from American culture, mainly from the western movies and the Mafia and jazz of the 40s. The success of the anime was so great that it gave rise to two manga series. The anime director also directed a movie based on the adventures of bounty hunters: Cowboy Bebop: Tegoku no Tobira.

4. Finding each other

anime to binge watch

Status: Finished (75 episodes – 3 seasons).

From the same creators of Death Note (Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata), Bakuman is the anime that all the aspiring mangaka (manga creator) has always wanted to see! The story of the anime revolves around Mashiro Moritaka and Takagi Akito , two young people who want to become the best mangakas in the world.

Ignoring the teenage drama present in the anime, Bakuman is a true class of how manga creation works. The stages of production, the relationship between author and publisher, the difficulties of having the manga approved and how to keep it weekly among the best sellers … all that is portrayed in this anime.

Bakuman also makes a satire (and tribute) to several contemporary anime and manga that continue to be published, such as One Piece and Naruto, for example.

3. Psycho-Pass

good dubbed anime on hulu

Status: Completed (22 episodes).

With a touch reminiscent of Minority Report, Psycho-Pass is ideal for those who enjoy science fiction stories (Sci-Fi ), with a dense plot, complex and quite stylish characters.

Psycho-Pass shows a futuristic dystopian world, where all human beings become considered criminal criminals until proven otherwise. People are constantly analyzed and observed, being punished before even thinking about committing some kind of crime.

The anime addresses very interesting questions about the human psyche and reflections on the meaning of good and evil. Another good suggestion for anyone who wants to run away from meaningless blows.

2. Berserk

anime i should watch

Status: On issue.

This is one of the most popular seinen series in the world, did you know? It already has more than 40 million manga sold!

The story revolves around a former mercenary and cursed swordsman, named Guts, who lives with the mission to decay the demonic Apostles. In addition to many explicit sex scenes, Berserk also has graphic violence not suitable for minors.

The fighting in Berserk is epic, but that is not what makes the series so wonderful, but the plot density and the personality of the characters. If you are over 18 years old and you are looking for a good seinen anime to enjoy, Berserk is the best option!

1. xxxHolic

anime watching sites

Status: Finished (37 episodes – 2 seasons).

Another CLAMP masterpiece, with such charismatic characters that it’s impossible not to get hooked!

xxxHolic tells the story of Watanuki Kimihiro, a young student who has the gift of seeing and attracting spirits. While he was being attacked by one of those entities from beyond, Watanuki desperately enters the Ichihara Yuuko store.

Yuuko’s store is anything but normal. She has the ability to make “dreams come true.” Watanuki wants to stop seeing spirits, but as a payment for Yuuko to make his wish, the young man will have to work in the woman’s shop.

And that is where we are “captured” by the wonder that is xxxHolic! Each episode presents a different client that Yuuko attends, dealing with themes that are inspired by legends and superstitions typical of the Japanese imaginary.

And best of all (mainly for fans of CLAMP’s work) and see the crossover xxxHolic does with Tsubasa: RESERVHO CHRONiCLE, where both series share the same story.

Obviously, we cannot forget Doumeki, a young man who becomes the “guardian angel” and the perfect antithesis of Watanuki, and the Mokona (who never dreamed of having a Mokona?).

In addition to manga and anime, xxxHolic also has several episodes in OVA and a movie ( Manatsu in Yo en Yume ).
